The Purdue State Bank, now Chase Bank, was designed by noted Chicago architect, Louis Sullivan. This is one of his “Jewel Boxes.” It is the smallest and least expensive of all the banks Sullivan designed, but carries his trademark features. Each of the building’s two long sides shows a horizontal row of recessed windows, separated by brick piers and surrounded by a band of green ceramic tiles of floral design. The brick parapets have single yellow tiles that shine with an almost jewel-like quality. The building opened in 1914.
